Compare Breakdown Cover

Whether you have a 1988 Honda Civic or a 2018 Audi Q3, your car is bound to be susceptible to breakdown at some point in its car life. In fact, over 1000 breakdowns happen on British roads every day. If tomorrow’s your unlucky day, you’ll definitely want to be covered for your breakdown.

But which type of insurance is right for you? Before you get a quote on an insurance plan, make sure you know the 5 main types and which one suits your needs most:

1 Home Start

Also known as at home cover, this plan is perfect if you’re a short-journey-only driver. It covers you in the case of a flat or faulty battery anywhere within a quarter of a mile from your home.

2 RA (Roadside Assistance)

If you breakdown on the way to your destination (and over a quarter of a mile away from your home), this plan covers you by the roadside. If your car can’t be fixed there and then, most plans will also cover you for up to 60 minutes of labour for towing your car to a local garage.

3 National Cover

This level of cover offers everything that RA does, with the addition of free towing to any location in the UK. So if you break up on your way home from a long distance journey and want your car to be taken to your local garage near your home, this insurance plan will have you covered.

4 Onward Travel

If your car breaks down on the way to your destination and cannot be fixed on the roadside, this plan will provide you with solutions that ensure you still reach your destination, such as hire cars.

5 European Cover

This is usually included as an add-on to more basic covers, but can also be offered as a standalone. This cover is perfect if you’re taking your car on holiday anywhere in Europe, as it covers you for any breakdown you may experience while on the continent.
